Stanford students
Summer
Stanford undergraduates interested in summer research with the XOC group should apply through the Physics Department's Summer Research Program or Stanford's Major Grant program.
Students who want to get a first idea of what projects might be possible within the group are asked to attend our summer research open house (held early in the winter quarter) and/or consult this list of tentatively identified projects rather than requesting individual meetings at the outset. We also ask that you submit a short interest form to provide key details about your background. Both the open house and the form are typically done in coordination with other groups in KIPAC.
Students planning to apply for a Major Grant should note that the proposal requires a fair bit of time and effort, and are therefore advised to begin the process early. In this case, we recommend taking a closer look at the research done in the group and getting in contact with one of the senior researchers who might oversee the project.
Please contact xoc_ug_recruit@stanford.edu with any questions on these topics.
Academic Year
Queries from Stanford undergrads about research opportunities during regular teaching quarters via Physics 190 or Physics 205 should be addressed to Steve Allen. Please see this list of current, tentatively identified project areas.
External students
We invite undergraduate students at other institutions who are interested in working with us for a summer to apply to any of the programs listed on the KIPAC undergraduate research opportunities website. Students accepted through the SULI, Cal-Bridge Summer and Leadership Alliance SR-EIP programs are all eligible to be matched with our group. Please reach out to xoc_ug_recruit@stanford.edu if you are thinking about applying and have any questions about our research, but note that we are not directly involved in the admissions process for these programs.
